Candidate for 2nd Vice Chair
Lance Olive was the mayor of Apex from 2015 until 2019, where he managed a $100 million budget. Before that he spent 4 years as a councilman, where he voted against every tax increase, and 6 years on the planning board where he fought for long-term planning and helping private property owners develop smart projects that integrate into the planned growth. A lifelong Republican and founding member of the Apex Republican Club, he’s also been involved in the Western Wake Republican Club, spoken to Eastern and Western Wake clubs and volunteered in his voting precinct district of 20-09.
Mayor Olive has lived in Wake County for more than 50 years, attended all Apex public schools, received his BS in Computer Science from NC State and his MBA Plus IT/MIS from Gardner-Webb, where was awarded the Dr. Frank Bonner Academic Excellence Award for his class. He designed and implemented databases, server software and user interfaces at Data General, Persimmon IT, and Cisco, where he moved into management. He now runs an electronics design company in Cary.
Olive is married to Cheryl, whom he met at NCSU, and is originally from Raleigh. In Apex, they raised two children, son, Kerby, and daughter, Shelby, both in their 20s and married. As the creator of the Red X Podcast, whose goal is to educate people on Human Trafficking, and has served as VP of Shield North Carolina, a non-profit also fighting Human Trafficking in our state.
In his spare time, Olive enjoys checking on his octogenarian parents, exercising his first and second amendment rights, growing hot peppers, helping people use consumer technology and watching movies with Cheryl and the cats.
